An Unconventional Beginning: The Burnout Moment
The story of TOMIA begins unconventionally – with a moment of burnout. Ľuboš Masný, the company's founder and CEO, spent 12-13 hours a day programming with minimal human interaction during his computer science studies.
“It was truly mentally exhausting.”
While top programmers emerge from such an environment, this world was not the right fit for Ľuboš. He missed the human dimension and the feeling that his work had a real impact.
California Transformation: Discovering the Human Dimension
A significant turning point came when Ľuboš went to California to sell books. From introverted work with code, he suddenly found himself knocking on strangers' doors for up to 16 hours a day in 40-degree heat.
“From an environment where I barely spoke to anyone, I moved into a world where I was knocking on strangers' doors for 14-16 hours a day. There I learned how business works, how to motivate myself, and most importantly – how crucial interaction with people is.”
This transformative experience laid the foundation for the philosophy that defines TOMIA today: technology is only useful when understood by the people who use it.
Microsoft and Ireland: A Path to Understanding Value
After returning and completing his studies, Ľuboš joined Microsoft, where he gained valuable experience in enterprise technologies. He later worked in Ireland on a project for an airline, implementing a CRM system for aircraft maintenance.
“In Ireland, I learned something fundamental – the cost, whether 10 thousand or 100 thousand euros, was not the issue. The focus was on the ultimate benefit to the company.”
This very approach – focusing on real value, not technical details – became the cornerstone of TOMIA, which Ľuboš founded in 2016.

The solution required courage and risk. “At one point, I had two projects assigned to myself. I put in extra hours so we could grow,” recalls CEO Ľuboš. “We struggled, that year was tough, but today we are more confident in hiring someone even without having a project right here and now.”
